Breaking Word Curses

Years ago I had a vision of a venomous snake. It was in my face with its mouth wide open with its fangs dripping with poison. I confess that a vision like this does not really impress me or captivate me. Actually I detest second heaven revelation, which is seeing into the spiritual realm where demonic spirits operate. (Eph. 2:2) Since this appeared to me, I though there must be something about this vision that I needed to understand. So I asked the Lord, “What does this mean?” I heard the Lord say,

“This is gossip” and the scripture came to me, “But the tongue can no man tame; it is unruly evil, full of deadly poison. (9) Therefore we bless God, even the Father and therewith curse we men, which are made after the image of God. (10) Out of the same month proceeds blessings and cursing. My brethern, these things should not be this way” (James 3:8-10).

The apostle James tells us that the tongue can be unruly, evil and full of deadly poison! The bite of a poisonous snake can be deadly, which is why a poisonous snake prophetically represents a venomous tongue that speaks words of anger, gossip and slander. The snake I saw represented word curses by those that were finding fault, being critical and judgmental.  As James declared we are made in the image of God; therefore, to speak against God’s people is not only to curse them but to curse God.

James is not warning the Church to be on guard to protect themselves from the occult that hate them, but Christians in their midst that are cursing them!  James warns them that when they bless God, such as in worship and praise, but speak ill against their own brethern, they are hypocrites. The tongue is created by God as an instrument of praise and blessing, but when it is used wrongfully it can be deadly. Curses are released when words are uttered from a heart that is contrary to that of God’s.

Church members that gossip and find fault with their pastor and with one another, will experience continual spiritual oppression. James tells us that “where there is envy and strife, and selfish ambition, there is “confusion and every evil work” (James 3:16).

When James speaks of “every evil work” he is talking about evil spirits that operate in the church. The gateway for this is through well meaning Christians that harbor envy, jealousy and strife. Selfish ambition is evident by those that use their gifts and talents for self promotion. As a result, there is confusion and EVERY EVIL WORK! We are admonished to guard our hearts because it is the seat of life. Therefore, heart issues such as unforgiveness, bitterness, envy and jealousy, and those that are critical and judgmental, open the door for demonic spirits to operate. This is one reason why there is chaos and confusion in the midst of a Church that quenches the life of the Holy Spirit.

King Solomon tells us there are seven things that the Lord hates. Of these seven abominations four of them deal with the power of speech. They are a lying tongue, a false witness, those that speak lies “and he that sows discord among the brethern” (Proverbs 6:19). It is our call to be peacemakers of God, to hate that which God hates and to love that which He loves. Christ loves His bride, the members of His body and so must we. No matter how tainted or imperfect the Church may be “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minster grace (the anointing) to those who hear (Eph. 4:29).

The Hordes of Hell

In his book “The Final Quest” Rick Joyner speaks of a vision where he saw a horde of demons riding on Christians. This might be shocking but it’s true! These Christians look like everyone else. They worship God, attend Church, tithe and participate in Church programs. They appear to be righteous but their lives are lived in agreement with deception that is perceived as truth.

Even though the fruit of their lives is discord and strife and they war against their own brethern, they actually believe they are being used by God. I knew a man that was instrumental in creating two church splits, one Church was ours! He actually believed that he had a just cause. Leading others down the wrong path with him, he ended up causing a great deal of confusion and devastation. Even today, those that were wounded by his actions are guarding their hearts least they are betrayed.

Satan’s strategy is simple. He seeks to bring division at every level of relationship knowing that a house divided will not stand. Thus, his primary strategy is to create division and strife. Not not only in the body of Christ, but at every possible level of relationship.  Whether it is in politics, the home, church or business, he knows that “where there is envy and strife and selfish ambition, there is confusion and every evil work. “

But the wisdom that is from above, is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and hypocrisy (James 3:16-17).

Many believe that their opinions and understanding is the truth despite its rotten fruit. Because they believe they are acting out of a righteous cause, they deem slander and fault finding as acceptable, even though the scripture warns against it! This is self righteousness which has its roots in spiritual pride. Our greatest enemy is not Satan resisting God’s people, but God resisting His people, for God resist the proud and gives grace to the humble. (See 1 Peter 5:5)

The weapons that Satan uses to empower Christians are spears of betrayal and arrows of accusation, gossip, slander and fault finding. These weapons are hurled by professing Christians toward others. Thus, Christians become the very instrument that Satan uses to carry out his war against the brethern – a curse that is devastating.

Quite often the Lord will show me a spear sticking out of someone’s back. When I see this, I know they have been betrayed, most often by someone close to them. As I symbolically pull out the spear they often groan or flinch. When I ask “What happened?” they express they felt some minor pain when the spear was removed. Following this is healing, sometimes physical healing as well as inner healing.

The same holds true for the heart. I often see arrows of accusations, gossip, slander and faultfinding sticking out of their chest, especially in the heart area. When these are pulled out, as God’s love is poured into them, I often see a wounded heart mend with a golden scar taking its place. The golden scar is God’s healing grace.

Accuser of the Brethern

Satan is called the accuser of the brethern because he uses Christians to make their petitions before God in the form of accusation. Because Satan was cast out of heaven; he cannot come to the throne of God to accuse God’s children of their faults. Instead, he uses Christians to come before the throne of grace to pray from the place of fault finding or murmuring and complaining rather than that of love motivated intercession.

True prayer is communication with God. Christians are called to intercede with God’s love, thus we must turn our criticism into love motivated intercession. When we hear the Fathers heart we are touched by His love. It is His love that empower us to pray on behalf of others and His thoughts that enable us to pray with the understanding.

Satan’s tactic is to use Christians to point out the darkness in others.  Simply pointing out to someone their faults does to mean it is the truth with the power to set them free. This is not truth but exposure. Darkness cannot cast out darkness nor can a railing accusation that is brought against another. It is the goodness of God that leads to repentance, not our personal opinions, beliefs or accusations.

God does not condemn His children no more than a parent condemns their own. God leads to them to the truth that makes men free. The Holy Spirit does not throw accusations at the church, but convicts men’s hearts of unrighteousness.

Satan knows that God created mankind in His image with the power of speech. If Christians ever came into agreement with the ways of God, Satan’s Kingdom would fall. He fears the unified prayer of Christians, the Sword of the spirit and the weapons of warfare that are not carnal, but mighty in God to the pulling down of strongholds. He therefore seeks Christians to use the sword of their word to cast down one another.

From Glory to Glory

It is the Spirit of truth that illuminates the light of God in the face of Jesus Christ to us “For God who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Cor. 4:6).

God illuminates the truth by revealing His light to you. It is here in the light of His glorious presence that we see the error of our ways.  As we gaze into the face and person of Jesus Christ we receive the knowledge of the glory of God and we are changed into the same likeness ” But we all, with an open face behold as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord’ (2 Cor. 3:18).

We were created in the image and likeness of God to be as He is. Thus to be like Him, as sons and daughters of the creator, we must have a revelation of our heavenly Father!  As we come to Him and behold His glory, we are changed into the same image.  My life has been radically changed when my Heavenly Father revealed His Spirit to me that transformed my heart. God speaks to the heart which changes the character of men.

The apostle Paul prayed that the Lord would grant to the Church the Spirit of wisdom and revelation that their hearts may be enlightened in the knowledge of Him (Eph. 1:18) Through Christ we are able to come to God “that you might be partakers of the divine nature.” (2 Peter 1:4). God seeks to anoint our character with His divine nature.

It is by partaking of His divine nature that enables us to go from glory to glory and grow daily in the light of Christ, “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more unto the perfect day (Proverbs 4:18). Thus the walk of a Christian should always be on the pathway of the light in Christ that grows brighter each day.  As we walk in the light as He is the light, we will have fellowship with Him. (1 John 1:7)

If we want to know the truth about a person or a situation, come to the Lord and He will reveal this to you “as the truth is in Jesus” (Eph. 4:121). The truth is not found in someone’s personal opinions, doctrine or understanding, but in a person- the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is THE TRUTH who came to reconcile man with God. This is our mission also, for God “has committed to us the word of reconciliation. (2 Cor. 5:19)  We are Gods messengers, ambassadors of the King with the call to minister the heart of God for reconciliation, (man with God and with one another) not that of discord that creates dissention. If we are not good stewards of our own words God will not trust us with His that enable us to minister the gospel in power and demonstration.

The Lord gave to His people a promise that if we put away the pointing of the finger and speaking vanity, our health shall spring forth speedily, and the glory of the Lord shall be our reward. For those who give themselves to minister with His heart that reveals His love, will be like a well watered garden gushing forth with springs of living waters that fail not,

Then you shall call, and the Lord shall answer, you shall cry and He shall say, Here I am. If you take away from the midst of you the yoke, the putting forth of the finger and speaking vanity (Is. 58:9).

Breaking Word Curses

Do you feel confused in your mind or emotions?  Are you experiencing feelings of hopelessness, despair and heaviness?  Instead of feeling blessed with a sense of God’s love for you do you feel a weight of oppression as if something was opposing you?  If so, people may be speaking ill about you that puts you under a word curse.

I often see word curses on people as a metal chain wrapped tightly around their chest. As I break the chain off they immediately start breathing more freely. They share that what they experienced is a release of pressure off their chest. If this is you, right now I grab this chain that is wrapped tightly around you, and I BREAK IT OFF YOU in the name of Jesus. Now breathe the breath of God my friend.

For others I see a restriction around the throat. This is the fear of man that came as a result of intimidation, control and manipulation. Many have been hurt by those they loved that were critical or that misused their authority. The fear of man places a “cork in the bottle” that prevents the Holy Spirit from rising up from within. God’s passion is for His Spirit who dwells in His people to be poured out to touch the lives of others. When a person is restricted, like a cork in a bottle, the Spirit is quenched.

When I see this, I put my hands near their throat and prophetically break the spirit of fear off them and ask for God’s love to fill them. It is His perfect love that cast out all fear. This releases them to minister the springs of living water. It this is you, right now I grab hold of this spirit of fear and I BREAK IT OFF YOU in the name of Jesus.

Another area that is cursed due to words is the spiritual ear. Often times I will give a prophetic word to someone that the Lord is opening their spiritual ears to hear His voice that they may receive His life giving words. It’s almost as if their ear canals are plugged up with words given to them by those in authority, or religious concepts that made them deaf to His voice. When a person cannot hear His voice, they cannot speak His words that give life. Thus they become spiritually deaf and dumb.

If this is you, I proclaim right now in the name of Jesus for your mind to be cleansed of all words that you heard that was not of the Lord. I BREAK OFF OF YOU the curses of men and the theology of religion that kept your mind in prison. We speak life for your mind to be renewed by the Holy Spirit. I command your ears to be opened to hear His voice that you may be enlightened in the true knowledge of Him. (Eph. 1:17-23).

Sometimes I will see a spear protruding out of a person’s back. This tells me that the person was betrayed by someone they trusted and loved.  If you have been betrayed and you feel a pain between your shoulders, or a pain in the small of your back, right now I PULL THE SPEAR OF TREACHERY AND BETRAYAL from it’s lodging place. In the name of Jesus I ask you Father to bring healing where rejection and betrayal has taken place. Let them feel your love and acceptance by the Spirit of Comfort – the Holy Spirit who is our comforter.

If your heart has been pierced by arrows of accusation, gossip and slander, right now I PULL THESE ARROWS our of your heart in the name of Jesus. We thank you Jesus that you are familiar with our grief and our sorrows, and by your stripes we are healed. I ask now for healing in their heart. Let your love heal the wound and for the scar to turn to gold by your grace. In Jesus name I pray- Amen.

Every place where you have been wounded and suffered and received healing, you have the authority to minster healing to others.  And remember, be strong in the Lord and put on your full armor and “Speak not evil against another” (James 4:11).

Finally my brethern, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. (11) Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil (Eph. 6:10-11).

Seek the Lord who is THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE and you shall find healing and restoration in your life. Take up the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God and submit unto God and Satan will flee. Draw near to the Lord’s heart to see from His perspective where He sits at the right hand of the Father for “His truth shall be your shield and buckler” (Psalms 91:4).
