Nugget of the Week 1-28-13: Called to Inherit A Blessing

Do not render evil for evil, or a railing accusation for railing, but contrariwise, render a blessing knowing that you are called, that you should inherit a blessing (1 Peter 3:9).

In the above scripture Peter states we are called to inherit a blessing. The blessing of God is our inheritance! To be called means that we have been given the invitation. An inheritance is that which is freely given to you – your birthright. Friends, YOU ARE CALLED TO INHERIT A BLESSING. God’s blessing encompasses all that is ours in Christ Jesus “In whom we also have obtained an inheritance” (Eph. 1:11).

The key to inherit our blessing comes from abiding in His presence. “IN WHOM” refers to a person – the Lord Jesus Christ who is the Way, the Truth and the Life.  Because the life of heaven comes in His presence, all of the blessings of heaven flow to us as we abide in the Lord of heaven. Because God is a Spirit and we are born again of the spirit, when we become one in Spirit with His, all that is in heaven is available to us In Christ.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us with ALL spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:3).

The presence of the Lord is found in His person. When we are filled with His Spirit the light of His person emanate in us and around us. The anointing is not a gift but a person – the Lord Jesus Christ for it is “Christ in you the hope of glory” (Col. 1:27).  He is our gift of life. To walk in the Spirit is to be clothed in His light where spiritual blessings flow to us from the heavenly realm. It is here as we are clothed in the light of His presence, that the entire Kingdom of heaven is available to us.

Heaven is not only a place to go when we pass on, but also our assignment. Jesus did not command that we seek after Him, but to seek first the Kingdom of heaven and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you. His prayer is that we reveal the Kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. Seek His Kingdom and you will find the person, nature and power of Christ. The Kingdom of God comes in His presence and with His presence comes all of heaven’s provisions.

You cannot swim in water without getting wet. Nor can you abide in the Lord’s presence, without getting soaked with the life that is in Him.  The more abundant life that is ours is found FROM THE PLACE OF HIS PRESENCE.  You do not have to struggle or strive to receive God’s blessing, but simply abide in God and His love.

The apostle Paul prayed that the Spirit of wisdom and revelation may enlighten our eyes in the knowledge of Christ, that we may know the fullness of the “riches of the glory of His inheritance that is in the saints” (Eph. 1:18). You have within you, the gift of the Holy Spirit whose passion is to reveal to you your inheritance in Christ. As the Psalmist David declared, You will show me the path of life: in your presence is the fullness of joy: at your right hand there are pleasures for evermore” (Psalms15: 11).

The path of life will always lead us to the Lord Himself where there is fullness of joy and the pleasures of heaven. This is the more abundant life that Jesus promised that is ours IN Him. Apart from Him, we are only seeking His blessings without learning how to abide in His glory. Thus, many believers go from Church service to service and one event to another looking for a blessing. Their quest is to receive the life that comes from being in the Lord’s presence. While many seek the blessing that is found in His glory, God is looking for those who will abide in His glory to be filled with His life.

Our highest call in life is simply to be with Christ, to know His heart, and from the place of fellowship, become as He is – full of life and glory. The work was completed at Calvary when Jesus said “It is finished” and the veil of the temple was rent. The door of heaven to enter into His presence is open. Let us therefore come into His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise.

The Kingdom of Heaven Is At Hand

As sons and daughters of the Kingdom of God, we have been redeemed to walk on earth to reveal the nature of heaven. Rather than look for a coming event, activate that which you have already been given. Think of all the spiritual gifts, impartations and ministry that you have received! Whatever God has imparted to you is eternal and lies within you. The commission that Jesus gave to us is as follows,

And as you go, preach saying, The Kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, and cast out devils: freely you have received; freely give (Mathew 10:7-8).

That’s how close the Kingdom of God is, “At hand.” Jesus said that the Kingdom of God lies within you! All you need to do in order to activate your gifting and the nature of heaven is to extend your hand to minister the Spirit to someone in love. In doing so, you will release the blessings of heaven that lie within you. As we noted in the beginning of this article,

“Do not render evil for evil, or a railing accusation for railing, but contrariwise, render a blessing knowing that you are called, that you should inherit a blessing (1 Peter 3:9).

The same blessing that God has given to you is yours to freely give to bless others. As you bless others with the nature of heaven, the blessings of heaven are poured out to you. In this way, you can walk under an open heaven. Just like a water facet, the more you open up to give out, the more free and powerful the water will flow.  Seek His Kingdom to be clothed in the light of His presence and all these things will be added unto you. Then from the place of your abundance give and you will become a rainmaker that will cause even the desert within the sphere of your influence to blossom and bloom.
