Knowing the Joy of the Light of God’s Face

Rise and shineWhen the Holy Spirit rises up from within, I experience the joy of the Lord. This takes place as I shift from the natural realm to the spiritual. It is the place where my spirit comes into fellowship with His Spirit.  Because the Holy Spirit dwells within, it is just a matter of allowing the Spirit to be present that enables my spirit to become impregnated with His life.  Anyone can “take a drink” of the Spirit at anytime. The result is the joy of the Lord that comes from the life of His presence within.

The apostle John knew the joy of this fellowship telling us, “ That which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have this fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things we write to you so that YOUR JOY MAY BE FULL” (1 John 1:3-4, emphasis mine).

We are the temple for the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit. God has said that He will dwell in His people and walk in them and He will be their God and they shall be His people “And I will be a Father unto you and you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty”  (See 1 Cor. 6: 16-18). It is this communion of fellowship with the Spirit where our soul is filled with the fullness of His joy.

I love to worship the Lord because it brings me into His presence where there is life. To know Him is to know His love. There is life in His love and there is no end to His love.  It is this “love relationship” between God and mankind where living waters flow.  It is this river of life that waters my inner most being with an abundance of joy.  It is this overflow of the Spirit that washes over me that causes me to break out with joyful laughter! The Lord’s desire is for His joy to fill His entire body – the bride of Christ.

THE FACE OF GOD

The blessing that God commanded Moses to proclaim over Israel, contains the Father’s heart for His people, which is to see His face that we may experience the light of His countenance. God loves for His face to shine upon His people.

“The Lord bless you, and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace  (Numbers 6:24-26).

David quoted this blessing adding, “That your ways may be known upon the earth” (Ps. 67:2). It is the revealed purpose of God for His people to shine with the light of His countenance that the world may know Him. The face of God radiates with joy that reveals His love. When you see His face, the result is an impartation of life that creates within you the sound of joy. It is this joy of abounding love that enables God’s people to shine with the light of His glory. The Psalmist David tells us,

Blessed are the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord in the light of your countenance” (Psalms 89:15).

We see the face of God whenever we experience His mercy, His goodness and blessing. The gift of Salvation, divine healing, deliverance and the manifestation of the Spirit such as prophecy, visions and dreams, all reveal the face of God.  As we experience the goodness of God we see who He is. We then become a living testimony to others by the fruit of the revealed life of God that we walk in.

As we see this aspect of the heart of God, we come to know Him.  Those who know Him know His ways that comes from being with Him. It is one thing to know His acts to receive His blessings, but it’s another to know God by His acts that display the glory of the Father in the face of Jesus,

“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, has shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus” (2 Cor. 4:6).

Jesus said that greater works will you do because of the empowering the Spirit that testifies that Christ has come, died for our sins and has risen.  It is these acts of the Spirit that reveal the face of Jesus to the world to see the revealed knowledge of His glory, for it is “Christ in you, the hope of Glory” (Colossians 1:27). Friends, we need to get to know the Holy Spirit better!

That I May Know You

Moses knew the acts of God but that wasn’t enough. He saw the supreme rule of God as King of Kings through the plaques sent upon Egypt. He saw the miraculous power of God who parted the Red Sea for Israel to pass over, which swallowed up their enemies. And yet Moses said to the Lord, “Show me your ways that I may know you… I beseech you, show me your glory”  (See Exodus 33:13-18).

In response, God passed before Moses declaring His goodness, His mercy, His grace and forgiveness of sin. In doing so, He revealed His goodness and truth. While Moses asked God to reveal His glory, God revealed His heart. In answer to Moses request to show him His ways to know Him, God revealed His divine nature.  The glory of God is not only revealed by His manifest presence, but through His divine nature. As we partake of His divine nature, we too will radiate with the light of His glory.

Moses was not interested in the supernatural acts of God as much as who God is. Moses was known as a friend of God who spoke with God “face to face.” The results of God revealing His nature caused Moses face to shine as the noonday sun.  Why? Because to know God’s heart is to see the face of God that reveals His love. It is this revelation of God that shines upon us with the light of His countenance that transforms our heart to be as He is – full of love, peace and eternal joy.

According as His divine power has give unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him that has called us to glory and virtue. Whereby we are given these exceedingly great and precious promises, that by them you might be partakers of His divine nature” (1 Peter 1:3-4).

Do you see it? By the power of His Spirit, we are able to KNOW HIM and partake of His divine nature. It is through the knowledge of Him (not about Him) that enables us to shine with the light of His glory. When you partake of the love of God you partake of His joy and thus come to know the joyful sound of His approval, His mercy, and compassion for you. It is this joy that enables our face to radiate with the light of His countenance! His love and joy is my fountain of youth that renews me daily with the life of HIs presence. You can my friends, get younger as you get older.

 The Quest of His Love

The Scripture bears within their teachings that God’s judgment is against that which slays love. John 3:16 reveals the heartbeat of God “For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

God’s love is directed to the place that enables you to be filled with the Holy Spirit where there is an abundance of life “For the Kingdom of God is not meat and drink, but righteousness, peace, and joy IN the Spirit  (Ro. 14:17). The nature of God is love and He who abides in love abides in God and God in Him. (1 John 4:16) As David declared, “In His presence there is fullness of joy” (Psalms 15:11). Abide in His love and you will overflow with a river of joy.

To know God is to know Him relationally. If we are more concern about the acts of God and what He can do for us, rather than who He is, we will fail to shine with the light of God, which is our ultimate quest and destiny. I noticed when the Spirit moves and the group I am ministering too shifts their focus to the manifestations, the power of the Spirit subsides. But when I refocus the group upon the Lord Himself with praise, the Spirit will move even stronger.

If our response is to manifestations rather than the heart of God, we will fail see Him. The provisions, blessings and manifestations of the Spirit are signs that point to Him, the source of life. The supernatural acts of God are a revelation of who He is.  When the Holy Spirit moves it is to reveal His glory. Our job is to behold Him and be transformed into the same image by the power of the Spirit  (2 Cor. 3:18).

Look beyond His acts to see Him and you will experience His love that will cause your face to radiate with the joy and life of His glory.  We are after all, created in His image to bear His likeness.

Revealing God

As mentioned earlier, David prayed, “God be merciful unto us, and bless us: and cause your face to shine upon us; that your ways may be known upon the earth….” (Psalms 67:1-2).

I was once going through a very tough family situation that was very delicate. For months I dealt with an unresolved issue that could not be confronted. Sometimes things develop that put you in a situation that if you say something, it makes things worse. But if you do nothing at all, you live with the inner battle of dealing with the frustration. Living with an injustice can be very trying on your patience.  Restrained by the hand of God, this went on for months.

On the morning when the family was to gather at our home for an Easter dinner, I woke up and felt the light of God shinning upon my face. It was an incredible experience where the Spirit of God shinned with the radiance of His light. In my heart was great peace and His love that placed a big smile on my face.

As the family arrived, I greeted each member with the same blessing allowing the light of God to shine upon them that God had shined upon me. It was God’s grace and it was a beautiful experience to sit at the meal table in the afterglow of God’s divine favor. It was a truly a new dawn. The scripture tells us, “Wherefore receive one another, as Christ also has received us to the glory of God” (Romans 15:7).

In other words, we are to bless each other with the same blessing by which we have been blessed. We are to shine upon the face of others with the same grace that God bestowed upon us. As I have learned to abide in His love over the years and how to host His presence, I have learned to some degree how to receive others with the same blessing of God’s presence that I walk in so they may experience Him.

It is the Father’s good pleasure to fill you with the light of His countenance that reveals His joy, peace and love to the world.  The prophet Isaiah saw a time when darkness covers the earth. During this time a remnant will rise and shine with the visible light of God’s glory (Is. 60:2).  This is our call!

Set your affections upon things above and get ready for the joy of the Lord to break out in you and through you. The Holy Spirit loves to bubble up and bubble over through those who LIVE IN the Spirit. His joy brings healing, cultivates a light and a merry heart and breaks strongholds such as fear, doubt and unbelief. His joy opens prison doors and sets the captives free.

Get get ready to minister His joy to others. It doesn’t matter where you are – in church, a restaurant, or family gathering, when the joy of the Lord comes let it rip! Ha. Then get ready to testify that God is a God of peace, love and joy and impart it to them. I have found that the Lord’s joy is contagious, and spreads easily. I have also found that the faces of those who are joyful actually radiate with the light of the Lord’s presence.

God sits in the heavens and laughs. (Psalms 2:4) Rise up to His throne on the wings of worship and soon you will be bubbling over with the Spirit of the Lord with an abundance of joy.  God does not wear a frown but a victorious smile.

Oh the wondrous gift of life that is ours in Christ! It is never ending without limitations. Thank you Lord for you “Will show me the path of life: in your presence is the fullness of joy: at your right hand there are pleasures forever more (Psalms 16:11).

God desires to reveal His heart to you that you may see His face that enables you to shine with the light of His countenance. I close with God’s blessing, which I decree over you, “May the Lord bless you and keep you, and be gracious to you. May His face shine upon you and give you peace” (Numbers 6:24-26).

In His heart and love ,
