As I went before the Lord in prayer recently, it occurred to me that the same political spirit that governs our nation is often found in the body of Christ! Although we may be disgusted with politics in Washington, it is my belief that the Church has the greater influence! In order to have the transforming power to influence our nation; we must first deal with the political spirit that so often governs Church life! Unless this spirit is unmasked and the Spirit of truth becomes our guiding light, it will seek to establish it’s rule and control the coming move of God.
What is a Political Spirit?
A political spirit seeks to influence the belief system of a group of people and those that have influence. Even in the face of its ill-fated fruit, it will masquerade as truth. Those under its influence believe they are doing right with a view that their ways are properly aligned with God. Thus, it is cast before the people as truth- a light that appears to be right, just and wise. Unless “The Truth” is from the Lord, (for the truth is in Jesus Eph. 4:21) the results are a counterfeit spiritual authority carried out by those in authority. This doesn’t mean that we eliminate authority in the Church, as that would leave a vacancy for false spiritual authority to rule. At the core of true spiritual authority is the heart of the Father and His love with a heart passion to serve the people. The results is established Kingdom life with divine order where people are seated in Christ as God has set each one in the Church as it has pleased Him (1 Cor. 12:18).
A tabernacle of glory where the vision and purpose of the Church arise from the heart of the Father implemented by the five-fold ministries of Christ whose purpose is to equip the saints for the work of ministry. A house of faith where the people are unified by His love that work together under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, who is the head of the Church (Eph. 4:15-16) that Christ may fill His body with all of Himself as the “All in All” (Eph. 1:23). Where Christ rules peace prevails.
The political spirit works in tandem with the religious spirit, which is rooted in spiritual pride. Under the banner of “righteousness,” it has no problem pointing out the shortcoming and failures of others in order to elevate and affirm its own position. Even if the fruit brings discord and strife among the brethern, it is viewed as righteous judgment. The power behind this is the deception of the accuser of the brethren. So much so, that Christians believe that God is actually using them. Thus, under the banner of self-righteousness, they march forward believing their works are ordained of God.
A person under the influence of a political spirit will adamantly base their views upon Scripture to validate their position. While at the same time overlooking the Scriptures and the power of the Spirit in the effort to prevent conflict and offending anyone. Their goal is to gain the peoples trust which leads to compromise. This might seem noble and just, but being selective in Scripture offends the Holy Spirit. Thus, the spirit of being “politically correct” is the same spirit that desires to be “religiously proper.” What appears to be freedom is often Biblically disguised as “decency and order. “ Although we do need to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves, the wisdom from above is peaceable and easy to be entreated, full of mercy that bears good fruit (James 3:17). The question is, what is our intention, motive and purpose? Is it pure that works by love or is it self seeking with the intent of self preservation with personal ambition?
When men establish their rule they are driven to manipulate in order to retain their authority. Rather than establishing the Government of Heaven, those under its influence will seek to establish a Church government run by men that compel others to serve a system based on obedience and performance. By it’s nature, it creates an atmosphere void of creativity that quenches the liberty and power of the Spirit!
With intellectual persuasion, this spirit offers convincing ideals that are appealing. It can be theatrical in its presentation, intellectually convincing and emotionally moving. Even if it requires manipulation to establish control, it will navigate the people with Scripture and common sense reasoning in order to implement it’s influence. In essence, this spirit takes the place of the Holy Spirit who speaks to the heart of men where the voice of the Lord is heard and received by those who love Him and His Truth. Those who serve Him because of their love for Him do so freely because their hearts are for Him!
Fearing those who walk by faith, the voice of a political spirit is often shrewd and artfully contrived. Calling for “submission to authority “it determines the logical course of a Church calling it godly counsel. Sadly, far too many are more concerned about running for office, promoting their spirituality and running campaigns in order to promote their agenda. Because of this, those who are truly seeking the reality of the Kingdom of heaven become discourage and disillusioned. It’s Church politics and it’s frustrating. All to often, those who are thirsty for Christ and His Truth and the joy of His fellowship, run into this divisive tactic. It is for this reason that many will refrain from attending a Church. The loss is great because many who are called that truly desire to serve, under the reign of a political or religious spirit, are unable to do so. Everyone is called and all are needed! There is nothing more fullfiling and life giving, than those who flow in the Spirit as they are gifted and called.
So often what is called ministry are Church activities void of the power and presence of God. When ministries are offered that determine what the people need, rather than leading people to a supernatural experience, a religious system has established itself in the Lord’s place. Kingdom life is not what we do but who we are. Our life does not evolve around Church culture and events, for our life is IN Christ “In whom we LIVE, MOVE and have our BEING” (Acts 17:28). Being a Christian is the marriage between the natural and the supernatural.
Christ is King of His Kingdom! His Kingdom reveals the light, love and light through His creation that reveals His glory on earth. True Kingdom life demonstrates the resurrection life and power of Christ. The evidence of His Kingdom is peace and joy IN the Spirit that visibly radiates upon the face of His people. “For the Kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy In the Spirit.’ Where Christ rules there is the nature of His Kingdom in demonstration of the Spirit.
His Glory or Ours?
Likewise, there are also many ministries operating in the realm of the Spirit where Christ is moving in the midst of His people. These are Goshen’s, watering holes of His presence. Bethels where there is an open heaven! It is the awesome presence of the Lord that ministers to the people that testifies of a truth that the Lord is in their midst with signs and wonders. Testimonies abound when the transforming power of heaven invades lives that cause people to testify of His healing power and goodness. This is the voice; the testimony that we need to hear that builds faith and proclaims to the world that Jesus is real!
Jesus did not come to seek His own glory or His own honor, but the glory and honor of His Father in heaven (John 8:50, 54). When we exalt ourselves seeking for recognition and honor, we have fallen from grace and our true place of authority that is in Him. Jesus taught those who seek for the glory of men are not true, but those who seek God’s glory are faithful and true.
It was the works that Jesus did in the power of the Spirit that the Father gave witness that Jesus was sent by Him (John 5:31-36). To see Jesus is to see the Father and that too is our call – to reveal the Father that others may see and know Him. In this we are honored before others by our heavenly Father. Jesus said, “ If a man serve Me, let Him follow Me, and where I am, there shall my servant be: if any man serve Me, him will my Father honor” (John 12:26).
The Dawn of New Era
Change is here. Now is the time and this is the day! You can tell by the voice of the people, they have a holy thirst for the living waters of Christ that brings life. This is the hand of God calling many to rise up and come to Him where they will overflow with rivers of living water (Rev. 2:22:1-2). In turn, they will become like a well-watered garden from which fountains spring forth that gives life to the thirsty (See Is. 58:11). People are ready for change and they shall have it – Him!
We are at the dawn of a new era. I have had visions of a fresh baptism of fire coming to the Church. To those who are prepared and ready, they will receive an impartation of His glory. In preparation for this outpouring, the Holy Spirit is moving to cleanse our belief system that has held so many captive to organized religion and the doctrines of men. The results will be a transition from the way we have done Church life to Kingdom life. Church is not what we do, but who we are as the bride of Christ. As a new creation of His Kingdom, we are empowered as manifest sons / daughters to reveal heaven on earth in the power of the Spirit. It’s time that we demonstrate the reality of the Kingdom.
A transformation is taking place. Like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon, the Church is about to soar in the freedom of the Spirit. Through this process, the Church will emerge as the bride she is called to be. Free of the institutions and doctrines that have kept her in spiritual slavery, she will advance with the gospel of HIS KINGDOM. Then we shall see nations transformed by a people that rise and shine with the light of His glory. It is the light of His glory that becomes visible upon His people, that will attract many to the light of their rising (See Is 60”1-3).
As for our house, we are determined to press forward in a culture of honor. Our passion is to fulfill the high calling of God! Without compromise or to gain personal influence, or to appease the fearful, or to make others feel more comfortable at the expense of compromise that quenches the Spirit, our call is to stand before Him to be unified with His heart to fulfill His purpose on earth as in heaven. We are zealous for the abiding glory of His fellowship and we shall have it.
Those who are aligned with God in heaven are now aligning with one another on earth. An army is rising with the King of glory in their midst and He will lead them. Who is the King of glory David asked? “The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle.. the Lord of Host, He is the King of glory!” (Ps 8,10).
As I recently heard, these are the hidden ones that are in plain sight. It takes the mantle of humility to see them! The call is to “Rise and shine for your light has come” (Is. 60:1).
