The Gift of the Holy Spirit

In the session called, “Born of the Spirit, we spoke of how God is a Spirit who has created us with a spirit. In other words, we are a spirit with a body not a body with a spirit. Those who see themselves as a body with a spirit will operate from the natural realm in the attempt to become spiritual. Thus, they relate to God from a theological or intellectual understanding of who God is and what they believe is truth that becomes their faith. Although this may sound spiritual, it does not position us in the living presence of God, which is our main call in life – intimacy with the Father. It’s all about relationship.

Those who see themselves as a spirit with a body will relate to God with their spirit. Since God is a spirit, we must have our spirit man unlocked from within to rise up with the liberty to fellowship with the spirit of the living God.

There are no spiritual boundaries that prevent our access to the presence of God such as know in the physical realm. This why Paul said because of the blood of Jesus; we can boldly come into the holy of holies to fellowship with God. If you perceive that the pathway to God’s presence is other than through the Spirit, you will find yourself on a journey always seeking to become spiritually fulfilled without ever arriving. Always seeking but never finding and yet Jesus said that “The thief comes to steal, kill and destory: But I came that they might have life and t more abundantly” (John 10:10).

Translated Into His Kingdom

When we received Jesus Christ our spirit was redeemed by the blood of Christ “Who has delivered us from the power of darkness and has translated us into the Kingdom of His dear Son. “ In the Kingdom of God you will find that heaven is filled with the presence of Jesus Christ, who is King of His Kingdom. Therefore, while our bodies are on earth, our spirit can be in fellowship with the Lord. Heaven is therefore not just a place where we shall go when we die, but a present place to dwell who has quickened us (made alive) to “Sit in heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Eph. 2:6).

Instead of having our faith in our perfection, righteousness or good works, or our discipline to read the Bible, pray, attend church and do good deeds, we must place our faith solely in the atoning work of Christ.  It is by His blood that the veil of the Temple was rent when He said, “It is finished” that allows us access to His presence. Come as you are and let his love, His living presence and the Spirit of truth wash over you.

That We May Be One

It was the prayer of Jesus on the night of his betrayal that we become one in Him and in the Father as noted in John 17:22, “And the glory which you given to them that they may be one in us, that the world may know that you have sent Me. True spiritual life and fulfillment comes by becoming one in the Spirit with the Lord “But He that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit (1 Cor. 6:17).

Question! What is the glory of God that Jesus said would make us one?  It is the gift of the Holy Spirit for Through Him (Christ atonement) we have access by one Spirit unto the Father” (Eph. 2:18).

The answer is that we are one through the Holy Spirit, the same spirit that was upon Jesus when He walked this earth. (See Luke 4:14 & 18) Jesus was always in fellowship with the Father who demonstrated the life that is ours in the Spirit. He said that He would give to us the gift of the Holy Spirit and that we would know Him for “He shall dwell with you and be in you!” (John 14:17).

Therefore the key to coming into the presence of God is by the Holy Spirit. How does this work. Remember we said that our spirit has been redeemed by the Lord that is “quickened” (made alive)  when we were born again, to know God once again in Spirit and in truth. When we allow the Holy Spirit to fills us, His Holy Spirit infuses our spirit with His resurrection life, love and power “For the Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God” (Ro. 8:16).

You spirit was created to be become one with the Father and the Son by the Holy Spirit who infuses your spirit with His. It’s like two glasses of water becoming one. You spirit will shine with the light of God when this takes place with an awareness of the Kingdom of God.  Remember- the Kingdom comes in the presence of Christ the King.

Your spirit has access to the heavenly realm to dwell in the presence of God to become one with the Father and His Son through the Holy Spirit.

Our goal to learn how to allow our spirit to come forth and for the Holy Spirit who dwells in you, to fill you to overflowing. All too often we seek ways to accomplish this through other means. The result is that we become a body not only with a spirit that is imprisoned but the Holy Spirit who also is confined and limited in its freedom and expression. The Holy Spirit desire is to set you free to be filed with the life and love of God which comes in the freedom of the Holy Spirit “Now the Lord is that Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (2nd Cor. 3:17).

Be Ye Filled

The question, how do we allow for the Holy Spirit that is within to rise up and fill us with His living presence that we may to live the abundant life that is overflowing. We know that the glory of God is the Holy Spirit given that we may be one, but what is the real mechanics of this? Paul tells us how to be filled with the Spirit in Ephesians 5:16-20,

Redeem the time… and be filled with the Spirit. Speaking to yourself in hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your hearts to the Lord).

It really is that simple! We often think of worship as the time that we come together as a Church to worship together, or when we soak in the Lord’s presence or worship to a worship DVD or CD. Although this includes worship, it is not the full expression of it. Worship is a way of life, a lifestyle.

True worship takes place when we live a life of worship that comes by focusing our “affections on things above, not on things on the earth” (Col. 3:2). As you open your heart and offer the sacrifice of praise to the Lord, making melody in your heart to Him and singing songs, the Holy Spirit within you will rise up and fill you with His living presence! He loves for you to worship God which enables Him to rise within you!

Starting with letting our spirit come forth, the Holy Spirit through the ministry of worship will rise up and infuse your spirit to fill you with His love, life and living presence that filters down into your soul- your heart, thoughts and emotions.

Please note: The pathway that religion provides is to get your soul- thoughts, feeling and heart issues perfect so that you can receive God’s blessings, which puts you under the law.  The New Testament covenant is that of the Spirit!

When you open your heart and you offer to the Lord your affections, adoration, love and praise with thanksgiving, you are attracting the presence of God who “Inhabits the praise of His people (Psalms 22: 3).

The ministry of worship opens the portal for a double blessing. First, the Holy Spirit is released within you where rives of living waters rise up to fill you to overflowing. And second, this opens heavens gate to heaven for His glory to come and rest upon you. The ministry of worship and praise releases a blessing from both within and from above! This is why in a Church setting, worship will change the atmosphere of the room to where the presence of God is felt around you as well as the Holy Spirit who rises up to fill you! This is why people leave feeling renewed and refreshed – they have been in the presence of  God. However, Christ the hope of glory is always with you!

The heart is the gateway to the indwelling presence of Jesus and the gateway to your spirit!  When you worship the Lord with your heart, you are allowing your spirit to rise up to the throne of God on the wings of praise. When praise goes up, the Holy Spirit fills you and the glory of God comes down! It is here in the place of worship where the glory of God that has been given to you, now enables you to become one with the Father and His Son.

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all you lands. Serve the Lord with gladness and come before His presence with singing…. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His gates with praise: be thankful unto Him and bless His name.

The key is to being filled is to do this daily. From the time that you arise to the time you lay down, let your spirit rise up and ask the Holy Spirit to fill you. Worship the Lord from your heart and soon you will feel a shift taking place in your self, from that of the natural to that of the spiritual. Soon life around you takes on a whole new dimension as the spirit of the Lord fills you with His peace, love and joy. Jesus said that the Father seeks those who will worship Him in Spirit telling us that

God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24).

True worship is living a lifestyle of worship by those who desire to walk in the Spirit to abide in His presence. God is seeking those who are worshipping warriors that are passionate for His presence. You know them by the torch of their heart that burns for God and His presence that rest upon them and abides in them. These are those that will settle for nothing less than abiding in God’s glory.

The key to going from the natural to the Spiritual takes place when we shift our mindset from the earthly and religious mindset, to that of God’s Kingdom to live in the Spirit. As we set our affections on things above learning to be filled with the Holy Spirit by living a life of worship and praise, we soon find that we are filled with the Spirit.

Another key to releasing the life of the Spirit is to speak in our spiritual tongues “For he that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself” (1 Cor. 14:3). The reason why this is edifying, is because when you speak in your tongues, it is YOUR SPIRIT speaking to the Father in spirit. This is why we don’t know what we are saying “For if I pray in an unknown tongue, it my spirits that prays…” (1 Cor. 14:14).

The reason why this is edifying is because God, who is Spirit, hears your spirit praying to Him, responds in spirit with His living presence that energizes your spirit with His.

In conclusion

Being filled with the Holy Spirit position us in God’s Kingdom in at least 7 ways.

●   Intimacy with God

●   Filled with the love and divine nature of God

●   Sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit

●   Living the more abundant life of peace and joy in the Spirit

●   Energizes our intercession with authority

●   The power to minister the anointing

●   The power to live a victorious overcoming life

●   That we may be one with the Father and His Son

Let your spirit be free in the spirit of liberty to rise and shine for your light has come. It is here in the His presence that we receive the love of the Father, the ministry of the Spirit of truth, our healing and provision “Who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” (Eph. 1:3).

The Holy Spirit desire is to fill every fiber of our being with His living presence.  It is here as we learn how to live in the realm of the Spirit that our mind and soul are renewed daily by the Holy Spirit. It is also by living in the Spirit that our mind, heart and emotions are renewed, transformed and redeemed that takes us “from glory to glory by the Spirit of the Lord. “

Don’t wait till you are perfect before you come to the Lord, rise and shine and as you enter into His presence. In doing so His love will wash over you, the Spirit of truth will cleanse you by the washing of the Word and the Spirit of Holiness (Ro. 1:4) will renew the spirit of your mind and soul by the transforming power of His living presence. It is not until we learn to serve the Lord with our spirit first, rather than obeying the Lord from the mind, that we find the victory “For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son. “(Ro. 1: 14).
